Healthcare Students visit the Podiatrist Office

By: Anthony Dileva - Adjunct Faculty

On February 13, 2014, I took my HLTH-150-Medical Law and Ethics students to Dr. Bruce Levin's office (my podiatrist) in San Pedro. On this field trip, the students were given the opportunity to observe Dr. Levin remove an ingrown toenail from a patient, watch him treat another patient for plantar fasciitis, observe laser therapy, and observe a patient undergo an acupuncture treatment. The students also spoke with Dr. Levin, his office staff, the therapists, and Dr. Roya (Acupuncturist) and ask them questions. This field trip was a great learning tool for the students because they got the chance to see what doctors and medical assistance do on a regular basis.

Healthcare Students joins Carson City Health Fair

On January 26, 2014, students from Dr. Blakely's HLTH200-Pathophysiology class volunteer their time at a Health Fair located at the Carson Community Center. Students were given the opportunity to screen the public for hypertension and diabetes by administrating glucose check and testing for hypertension. This event gave the students the chance to develop some hands-on experience in the medical assisting field.
